SPORTS MASSAGE THERAPY
Treatment in Spokane that Gets you Moving Again

Massage therapy at Movement Clinic is built for people who move — and want to keep moving. Our Spokane sports massage therapists use hands-on soft-tissue work to help active individuals, golfers, and runners recover faster, reduce pain, and stay in the game.

This isn’t a relaxation massage. It’s targeted, movement-focused therapy designed to address what’s actually causing your tightness, restriction, or recurring flare-ups.

What Sports Massage at Movement Clinic Includes:

  • An initial assessment to understand your history, your goals, and what’s going on in your body

  • Targeted soft-tissue treatment using a combination of massage therapy, assisted stretching, instrument-assisted soft-tissue mobilization (IASTM), and cupping

  • Home care guidance to extend the benefits of your treatment between sessions

Techniques We Use:

Instrument-Assisted Soft-Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)

IASTM uses specialized tools to detect and treat areas of soft-tissue dysfunction — scar tissue, adhesions, and restrictions that limit movement and contribute to pain. It’s particularly effective for overuse injuries common in runners and golfers.

Cupping

Cupping uses suction to decompress tight tissue and improve circulation. It’s often used alongside massage to address deeper restrictions and reduce recovery time.

Assisted Stretching

Pin and stretch combines muscle activation and stretching to release tight muscles and improve range of motion. It’s especially effective for hip, shoulder, and thoracic restrictions.

Who Benefits Most from Sports Massage

  • Golfers with tight hips, restricted thoracic rotation, or shoulder tension affecting their swing

  • Runners dealing with IT band tightness, hip flexor restrictions, or calf and plantar issues

  • Active adults recovering from sprains, strains, or soft-tissue injuries

  • Anyone whose tightness keeps coming back despite rest and stretching

How Sports Massage Works with Chiropractic Care

Our Spokane massage therapists work alongside our sports chiropractors to deliver coordinated care. While chiropractic addresses joint mobility and movement patterns, massage works on the surrounding soft tissue — the muscles, fascia, and connective tissue that support those joints. Together, they get better results than either alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to see a chiropractor to get sports massage?

No. You can schedule sports massage as a standalone service. That said, many of our patients get the best results when chiropractic and massage are combined. Our team communicates across both sides of care. When you use medical insurance to pay for your care a diagnosis is required from a referring provider. Our chiropractors can refer you to our massage therapists if needed.

Q: How often should I come in?

It depends on what you’re dealing with. For acute issues, weekly or twice-weekly sessions can accelerate recovery. For ongoing maintenance, monthly sessions are common. Your therapist will make a specific recommendation after your initial assessment.

Q: What should I wear?

Wear or bring comfortable clothing you can move in. Depending on the area being treated, you may need to expose that region of the body — your therapist will use draping to keep you comfortable throughout.
